The team
After
the temperatures settled for more seasonal values during the past
week, we were able to get a few more nice training runs in. After
the dogs sitting relatively long, I had to start with some easy
20 Milers and than a 50 and a 100 to the "Finish" in Whitehorse.
Once I started right from the Kennel on the Alaska Highway, the
other time Marcus drove me to Braeburn and I ran the "laste
leg" to Whitehorse. That was an exceptionally nice run, perfect
weather, the dogs were running smooth and after 9 hr we arrived
in downtown Whitehorse under moonlight. I was running 17 dogs with
all the final potential teammates in there. This was a nice last
run in Whitehorse, I will do a few more short ones in Fairbanks,
and I picked my final 14.
| Chevy and Tang | (Tang`s Achillis Injury back in Dec healed nicely) |
| Brownie and Micky | (Micky with 18 month the youngest, but very promising dog) |
| Wondar and Piano | (Piano developped to new leader) |
| Marmot and Coon | (both I would not have guesses, but very solid team dogs) |
| Skipper and Paws | (not the hardest workers, very steady never seen an injury) |
| Eman and Libby | (both work a bit too hard, hope they learn to pace themselfes) |
| Herring and Otto | (two big solid wheelers) |
As a spare I will bring little Eagle to Fairbanks, you never know if there will not be some freak accident or injury before the start. In the last runs were also Ginger, but she only works hard when she knows I go home. Zip has reaccuring shoulder problems, so did Circle.
If all goes well I pack up my stuff tomorrow and head to Fairbanks, yes in my good old 78 Chevy, that`s why I leave so early......, stopping at Roy and Sandra`s in Tok.
Happy trails Cheers Sab
