On the way to Alaska
The last
few days I spent with preparing the food drops. The temperatures
have been quite low, specially in Watson Lake. I had to do a quick
trip there, and upon my arrival the thermometer showed 46 below
in Upper Liard. Darn that`s cold. I did not dare to turn off the
truck, it ran all night, and it went down to 49 below the next morning.
Not too much traffic on my way back to Whitehorse, where the temperatures
were more moderate in the 30th below.
The food drop is not an easy task this year, due to the BSE problems
in the US and Canada. There are various rumors of what we can get
across the border for meat and what not. I guess I will find out
what`s true on Thurday when I go to Tok.
The weather forcast is calling for snow for the Copper Basin on
Friday and warmer temperatures about 15 to 20° C below, which
is good news. It is always hard to select the team. First I had
ambitions to really go racing, but there are quite a few dogs in
training, that are litterally unproven to racing. I will take them
instead good old Tang, Brownie, Dancer, Chevy, they will stay behind
and go out with the tours to stay in shape, they have enough experience.
I need to find out of the young ones who is suitable and not. If
you like to follow the progress on the web, it is www.cb300.com,
Race start is Saturday the 10th. Have fun,
Cheers Sab, Joc and Team
