Mile 101 - Angel Creek

Refresh : Overview map : Start/Finish   Checkpoint   Dogdrop

(Distanz 53 km)

Mile 101 a little cottage in the valley behind Eagle Summit and no official stretch post. Nevertheless almost all teams are resting here because there is straw for the dogs, warm water (melted snow) and a good meal.

The most important at this stretch is the fact that all teams have to take an eight hours stop at Angel Creek. Who arrives two hours before the first Verfolger, may begin the last 160 km after eight hour de pause. An advantage that is hardly to catch up.

Between Eagle Summit and Angel Creek there is also Rosebud Summit, that in the story of the quest again and again was forgotten in benefit of its far better known and higher. But there are also steep cliffs and more open water in the vallees and sharp curves on a narrow wooded Trail, that demands the whole concentration of the overtired dogd and Mushern during the eight hours reste in Angel Creek attracts them. Also this is a part of the stretch that is confessed for moose attacks. Alone in one year when the race started in Fairbanks three teams was attacked by mooses on this stretch an two dogs injured an a sled heavily damaged. Now almost 1500 km were traversed in 10 days by the dogs and Mushern.
