Eagle - Circle City

Refresh : Overview map : Start/Finish   Checkpoint   Dogdrop

(Distanz 235 km)

This part of the Trails, that was designed on the Yukon River by Trailbreakern with chain saws and axs, counts with his open water and the gigantic ruins fields out of ice clod and frozen drive wood as very dangerous. Experience, quiet and will of leaddog and Musher will bring far more than a youthful zeal and power although in other years the smooth ice cover of the Yukon gave the advantage of young team. Biedermann's Cabin is a solitary trapper cottage and only an unofficial stretch post. Many teams begin "hide" themselves here and pass this cottage in secret to keep their advantage or their resttimes which are getting more and more important, secretly.

In Circle City we will know the first correct times even if there is always the questions how long the teams have rested in the bush. The teams have traversed over 1200 km within the last eight days and the Trail leads down on the Yukon until Circle. More open water, ice clod and even sore paw because of the ice are to be expected.

With large probability, dogs have to be dropped in Circle and slowly the team of the real winners is formed. Some people will also have to abandon here. The group of ten veterinarians does not take dogs out if they cann’t pull anymore, but rather as soon as an animal shows exhaustion or other features, that purport that a continuation of the racing can lead to damages - the decisions of the veterinarians is irrevocable. Offences against such one decision means immediate discalifikcation. On the other side, it gives hardly a Musher in this race, to which his dogs are not more important than the race. Teams which give up, or dogs how are dropped are usually done voluntarily.
