Eagle Summit expected now the teams. One of the shortest and gefürchtesten part
stretch of the race that is for normal teams almost impossibly
to be climbed shortly before the summit. Musher strike steps into
the snow, climb to bring provisions and equipment up to brng than
the sled with the dogs in hope that there leaddog does not abandon
and leads the team with good example without hesitation.
Shortly before the summit, the Musher will stand almost vertically under his
sled and the dogs must almost climb in the deep snow to win height. Often it
occurred that teams have, specially in storm and in night, abandoned before the
last and steepest part of the mountain and had to reverse to Central. The strategy
to follow an other team, instead of breaking the Trail often led to the victory.
But they cann’t wait to long at Central for a voluntary Musher who will
take the the leadership.
Who ever lies on place three, four or five, just waits that the leading team
hesitates, loses his rythme or shows uncertainties.
