"Pinball Alley", how this stretch was named by Mushern, expects the teams. Pinball Alley is a narrow trail with a lot of curves and surrounded by dense meadows and firs. The trail “falls” sometimes vertically over meter in stream beds, leads on the crest of up to 25 meters high reefs along the Yukon and meanders itself through hilly landscape, in which sharp, steep curves of 180 degree are the slightest vile. By time reason many teams will have to traverse this stretch in the night if they do not want to rest too long. In Carmacks, probably the first sleds have to be repaired.
Sleds may not be exchanged in the Yukon Quest, not like in the Iditarod, they must be gone from the start to the finish line.
