Central - Circle City

Refresh : Overview map : Start/Finish   Checkpoint   Dogdrop

(Distance 120 km, Time 8-14 hours)

The Trail to Circle is partly hilly however by far not so strenous as Boulder or Eagle Summit it was for the dogs. The teams drives over the Circle Hot Springs Road, then over 30 kilometers by bushes and swamps to reach the Birch Creek. Open places such as Medicine Lake can be quite windy depending upon weather conditions, but the largest danger is Birch Creek here, on whose ice the teams ' travel ' for longer time. Under places, in which the wind had blown much snow it can easily have open water, and the danger to brake in is small but however available. After they leaves Birch Creek, the Trail goes in many curves by high fir forest. After 72 kilometers the trail passes under a bridge of the Stess Highway and passes afterwards at a Cabin. There many mushers make a break. In the connection it goes still further 48 kilometers toward Yukon River, on his bank is situated the First Nations Village Circle City. This is the northernmost point of the Yukon Quest. Altogether this is a quite simple distance. In Circle City the fire-brigade building serves as checkpoint, where water, meal and a large sleep area waits for the mushers. All this is placed free of charge by the inhabitants of the village.
