Checkpoint Circle

About 80 kilometres south the polar circle, at the end of the Steese Highways and at the Yukon River the small village is situated, with only approximately 100 inhabitants. In the times of gold fever, the number of the inhabitants lay with well over 1000 and was thereby the largest gold grave city at the Yukon. The place was given up however later, when the call of the gold lured all inhabitants to Dawson and one of the first commercial posts of Alaska became a gosthtown. Today the commercial post possesses a motel, a cafe, a supermarket, bar and a gas station.
