The Checkpoints
Checkpoints
are places, usually localities or "Lodges", (gas stations
at a Highway). Here the dogs are examined by veterinary and - if
necessarily - maintained.
The mushers can take his equipment (Booties, food supply for musher
and dogs, dresses, batteries etc.) on his sled, which they had made
available here before the race.
Hurt and tired dogs can be dropt, that means they can be given to
the handler.
At the checkpoints there are warm meals as well as heated sleep
places for the mushers.
