My name is Mark Sleightholme and I am from the north of England, and I have been mushing on a completely different scale for about 3 years. I got one Siberian Husky nearly 5 years ago, and soon found out that walking her sucked - for both of us - I couldn't take her long enough to tire her often enough - so I got a harness and she pulled me on my bike. After a while I thought how it could be more fun with two dogs. Soon I was looking for other places to train them as the local trails had been done so often, and in the process I found that I could race them with a cart in Scotland and did that for a couple of winters - that was good but still I wanted to go further, and without wheels. After a lot of reasearch I found Sabastian, and about a year later here I am! The most dogs I had driven before was 6, so it was a big shock when I saw the length of gang-line laid out infront of us my first day here in the Yukon. Like everything it gets easier with practice. This winter I am here to do a number of races in Alaska and the Yukon - it's really good to have a goal to work for.
