Realisation of a dream (Part 1)
Ten years ago I was fear of dogs, but then I meet in finnland on a huskytour my wife (but that's another story) and the huskys and fall in love.2001 visited Blue Kennels and I completed a 100-miles stagingrace, the Silver Sled.
Now I was not only infected by the huskyvirus but also by the racingvirus and so I was back in the Yukon the next winter to participate at a "real" mid-distancerace with checkpoints and without help during the race - the Copper Basin 300. The dream from driving longer races seemed to be finished because the requirements was a lot higher than I could imagine. But after a while I saw everything more objective and designing and updating this website breaked out again my husky-racingvirus and so I will try to realize my dream the "Yukon Quest" in 2008.Qualifications
This season is the time of qualifications - to participate at the Yukon Quest I must finish at least one 200-mile (320 km) and one 300-milerace (480 km) and so I have the Knik 200 and the Copper Basin 300 on my racing schedule.But also the material needs to be tested as I want to make a video of the whole exploit the equipment needs to prove that it will reach the requirements. Especially the cold temperatures with below - 40°C will be a challenge - after all I even don't know if my spare contact lenses will freeze and the freezer is with max -20°C much to warm for a test.
Also I like to assure that the updates of the website will run so smooth than the last years, even if I have not the same IT-infrastructure in the Yukon than at home.
The dogs was on a glacier and keept in good condition by small touristtours and I did also something for my condition and finished the 17 september a half-marathon as performance audit (in 2:04:14,2 - a time I wouldn't have dreamed in former times in my worst dreams, but we are becoming older).
Now I'm waiting for the cold season and the 26 november my plane leaves for the Yukon and then at the latest there will come again action in the website with reports, pictures and videos.Pictures and videos
